STRENGTHENING COMMUNICATION
UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROGRAM
How are other universities approaching sustainability?
Brown University
- Brown University is home to one central sustainability club, emPower, which encompasses eight smaller student groups
- Groups include a bike share program, reusable water bottle initiative, and a student climate coalition, among others
- emPower has a set weekly meeting time and organizes an annual conference for all things sustainable on campus
Northwestern University
- Similar to UMSFP, the Illinois-based campus has an organization that promotes the importance of sustainably grown food
- The program is known as Wild Roots, and it consists of three undergraduate environmental student organizations (SEED, ECO, and ESW), facilities management, the graduate student garden, and Norris University Center
- WR is currently run by undergraduate students in collaboration with their facilities management
- They hold conversations on sustainability, grow local and sustainable food, and seek to educate the student body on where their food comes from and how it impacts the world
